Mr. Walter Leon Holloway

Walter Holloway, 60, of Bradenton, FL, died on December 16, 2022. The Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The Homegoing Services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 11:30 AM. Both will take place at Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C Church, 41803 18th Street Ct. E, Palmetto FL. Interment will be held at 11:00AM, on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72.

Walter Holloway was born on July 27, 1962, in Bradenton, Florida, to the late Willie J. and Delores M. Holloway. He died December 16, 2022, in Savannah, Georgia. Walter married Gonzella Houston-Holloway on July 29, 1992. In 1980, Walter graduated from Palmetto High School. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served his country fighting in Beirut, Lebanon. After being honorably discharged as a sergeant, he was employed at the Manatee County Sheriff Department for several years. From there, he was employed by the Bradenton Police Department.

He received numerous awards including the One Hundred Club. Walter also received recognition for his efforts in a joint task force from the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation. He retired as a detective in 2003. Walter was a matter of fact person with a very strong personality. He was there whenever someone needed him. Walter enjoyed watching basketball, especially the Lakers. He also loved to fish and hunt.

Walter leaves to mourn: his wife of thirty years, Gonzella Houston Holloway; children, Troy Wortham, Sr. (Jolynn), of Fayetteville, NC, Ashlee Crook (Dexter) of McDonough, GA, Euwell Gray, Jr., Carrie Holloway-Roland (Javarice) of Savannah, GA, and Takeira Holloway of Palmetto, FL; grandchildren, Troy Wortham, Jr., Euwell Gray III, Kendall Ferguson, Jayden Roland, Natalie Crook, Josiah Roland, and Jaxson Roland; great-grandchildren, Melaiyah and Kacen Wortham; four siblings, Cynthia Johnson of Nashville, TN, Willie Holloway, Jr., who preceded him in death,
Tonya Holloway, and Bernard Holloway (Tennessia); sisters-in-law, Brenda Flanagan (James) and Deborah
Houston; brothers-in-law, Herbert Houston and Villard Houston, Jr.; aunts, Thelma McKinney (Richard), Elouise Turner, Mozell Whitehurst (Reuben, Sr.), Rosetta Green, Emma Polite (Anthony), Mary Anglin (Eddie), and Georgia Holloway; uncles, Mark Dawsey (Daisy), Zachariah Dawsey (Nell), Nehemiah Dawsey, Jerry Holloway, Charlie Holloway, Robert Holloway, and Walter Holloway; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

  3. Walter was a young man I met at Palmetto high School one who love playing basketball and other sports. Later Walter was a policeman with the City of Bradenton along with one of my sons. It was a proud moment for me to know that he was looking out for him.
