Gary Leon Snell

Gary Leon Snell, better known as “Showtime” for his smooth dark skin, gazing bright smile, and his quick football skills and moves, passed away on June 20, 2022. He was 64 years of age and had recently celebrated his birthday at the time of his passing.  He was born to Climmie L. Snell Rivers Brooks and Robert Bowens, Jr.

Gary graduated from Sarasota High School. After graduation, he played college football for Santa Rosa Junior College and later enlisted into the United States Navy. Gary was smart …. “some may say too smart for his own good”, quick-witted and strong-willed. He loved sports and eating.

He was predeceased by a sister, Monica Rivers and his parents, Climmie L. Snell Rivers Brooks and Robert Bowens, Jr.

Left to cherish precious memories of his life are his children: Lajuan Rivers, Destinee Snell Lewis, and Clifford McDonald; his mother, Dorothy Bowens; sisters: Jackie Hill, Valerie Snell, Veronica Irvin, and Trina Bowens; brothers, Tommy Snell and Ronald Bowens; an uncle, Horace Stevens; his favorite cousins: Tony Dunbar and Gloria Rainey; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 1, 2022, 6-8 P.M. at Chandler’s Funeral Home, 1425 Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Way, Sarasota, FL, and his Homegoing Celebration will be on Saturday, July 2, 2022, 10:30 A.M. at Truvine Missionary Baptist Church, 1947 31st St., Sarasota, FL.  Arrangements by Chandler’s Funeral Home.
