Bernice Belcher Flemming

Bernice “Missy” Belcher Flemming, 79, of Sarasota, FL, passed away on June 25, 2022.  She was born in Sarasota, FL, on August 27, 1942, to Alfonso and Hester Belcher.

She attended Booker High School and served her community in the hospitality and healthcare industries.  She was a dedicated and faithful member of Truvine Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse’s Guild, with the Senior Women, and sang with Choir #2.  She spent many years as both an officer and member of the Order of The Eastern Star, Floral Chapter #33 and the Court of Calanthe, Sheba Tent #4. 

“Ms. Bernice” had the fun house on the block and was affectionately viewed as a second mom to many.  No one ever missed a meal when they came to her house, and she made everyone feel like family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Hester Belcher; brothers:  James, William, Alonzo, and Willie; and one beloved sister, Ruby. 

Left to cherish the precious memories of her life are her two sons: Kenneth Howard (Ginny) and Andre’ Wilson (Liz); one daughter, Shari Davis; a sister, Betty Joe; grandchildren:  Alexandria, Andrea, Bryce (Lexi), Andrew, Devon (Talea), Brianna, Jaythan, James, and Haley; great-grandchildren:  Gianna, Amiyah, Austin, and Calian; nieces and nephews: Gail, Selena, Kaytrina, Clovia (Lonnell), Zamiriah, Chrislyn, Dasani, KaiLynn, Charles Jr., Dwight, Chris, James, Roy Jr., Zorick Jr., Zadarius, Jakyren, and Jacobie, Jr.; cousins: Ruby, Harold Jr., Carol, Janie, Milton, and Brandon; special friends: Julia Bane, Dora Brown, Jeff Murphy, Jodi Dierdorf (Paul), and Dion Craft; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 8, 2022, 6-8 p.m., at Chandler’s Funeral Home, 1425 Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. Way, Sarasota, FL, and the Homegoing Service will be on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 1 p.m., at Truvine Missionary Baptist Church, 1947 31st Street, Sarasota, FL.  Chandler’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  3. Bernice&Ruby were dear friends of Julia Bain, I remember them from church growing up and all the organizations “Eastern Star” Julia would offer her condolences if she could voice it at this time. I know she loved Bernice as a sister and she sends her love And condolences to the family.
